FACES

Study of the Face

This series of paintings is the result of several years of experimentation aimed at reproducing the same face through the exploration of different techniques and a range of modes of representation. Each study is arranged to form a concert of shapes, textures, and colors, inviting the viewer to disco- ver beyond abstraction the face that evokes a familiar feeling, one in which they can recognize themselves or identify with.

The face has fascinated me since my early forays into art, both for the technical demands inherent in its representation and for the breadth of expressive potential it offers. The idea of revisiting a pain- ting exercise from my college studies became a pretext to once again delve into this part of anato- my, using it as a framework or testing ground for a blend of trials and experiments. This time, freed from the academic context and its didactic constraints, I was enthusiastic about the prospect of ex- ploring my passion for playing with colors and textures without limitations, thus opening the door to new ideas and pushing the boundaries of my artistic practice.

As I began the first series of paintings, this approach quickly revealed itself as a rich source of op- portunities and creative possibilities. I added to the simple idea of reproducing a face the challenge of transgressing its composition, drawing inspiration from elements, materials, and objects that caught my attention. However, this new approach took me out of my comfort zone and compelled me to deviate from my usual creative processes in order to develop new ones. Far from hindering me, these challenges, once overcome, heightened my excitement and enthusiasm as I witnessed of- ten unexpected and inspiring results.

Over time, this exercise gradually became a way for me to tell my own story and to elevate my everyday experiences. Whether flipping through a magazine or walking down the street, I was cons- tantly in search of a detail, a texture, or a pattern that could serve as a starting point to infuse a new identity into that face. I had become, in a way, that compulsive collector searching for the rare ob- ject capable of impacting me, enchanting me, and momentarily satisfying my need for novelty.
